about

An electro-acoustic composition performed live in Christchurch on 25 August 2000. Comprised of three parts designed to transition from pure electronic, computer manipulated sound to organic and freely improvised electric and acoustic stringed instruments.

The performance was recorded live in the gallery space, which was a large open room with high ceilings, so there is a huge amount of reverb and noise from the air conditioning units present on the recording. Transfusion I was pre-recorded and played back on a CD with no human interaction, while parts II & III were performed live.

The original recording of Transfusion I has been remixed and included as a bonus track. This piece was composed from a source recording of bowed electric guitar played by Peter Wright, which was then digitally manipulated and processed into three separate 15 minute compositions by Charles Horn, David Khan and Peter Wright. Neither artist referenced each other in making their part of the composition, and had complete freedom to create something abstract from the same sound source. The three tracks were then mixed together without any editing or additional effects to create the final piece.
